High Temperature Heat Pump
Description
The definition of high temperature heat pump is not defined and is a heat pump with a heat sink temperature higher than 80°C or 100°C. The fundamental of high temperature heat pump is not different than normal heat pump, however, the high temperature limited the material of the component used such as the oil, the sealings, insulation. Furthermore, many refrigerants cannot supply high temperature due to their low critical temperature. Therefore, high temperature heat pumps are a new technology on the market, not only in Switzerland as well in other countries and are thus not widely spread but are subject of many EU and Swiss projects such as (push2heat , spirit , IEA-annex58 , HTHP-CH , IntSGHP ). Steam generating heat pump is also a subject on its own as steam is used in many industrial processes such as distillation, pasteurisation, and cleaning in place.
Example
The following graphic shows the current high temperature heat pumps available on the market in 2023 with their respective compressor type and refrigerant.
