WP10
A multi-criteria assessment suite to support decision-making of renewables integration in industry
Abstract:
The integration of renewables is bound by an industrial company's stringent requirements regarding reliability, demand-side management, etc. The aim of this work package is to support systematic and well-reasoned decision making, on all levels of stakeholder engagement, when considering renewables integration options. This work package will identify and develop key methods and tools to screen the various options and to understand the trade-offs during decision making for the cost-effective integration of renewables in industry. The work package will incorporate process integration and multi-criteria decision-making methodologies to achieve the goals of the work package. Engagement of stakeholders will also be established as they are key for implementation. With their assistance, it facilitates industry-wide reach to end-users.
Objectives:
The integration of renewables are bound by an industrial company's stringent requirements regarding reliability, demand-side management, etc. The integration of renewables in industrial processes is challenging as customized solutions are often needed. Sophisticated process integration methods play an essential role in achieving optimal solutions at the company level, site level, or in large-scale systems. Research is required to propose methods for the accelerated screening and assessment of integration options and help stakeholders to make decisions through transparent analysis. This WP will identify the key methods and tools to support well-reasoned decision making for the cost effective integration of renewables in industry. The work will contribute by developing a multi-criteria decision making tool to assist the transition towards renewable heating and cooling. The tool includes
- the technical, operational, and economic aspects of opportunities,
- the key criteria in developing business models for the implementation of the integration opportunities of renewables heating and cooling, and
- development of complex and customized solution for the industrial company, site, or large-scale system.
Tasks:
- T10.1 Process integration based screening methods for renewables integration
- T10.2 Techno-economic solutions assessment
- T10.3 Business model development
- T10.4 Multi-criteria decision analysis
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): from 5 to 6
Expected Outcomes / Milestones:
- Systematic screening and assessment of renewable integration options for heating and cooling in industry.
- Comprehensive techno-economic assessment of the screened options
- Identification of commercialization criteria for the integration of renewables.
- Multi-criteria decision making for implementation of integrating renewables in heating and cooling in industry.
