WP06
Case Study 1, City of Zurich
Abstract:
The WP06 "Case Studies" aimes to apply, test, validated, and improve approaches, tools and results developed in other work packages to concrete locations in the city of Zurich
Objectives:
The work package aims to apply, test validate and improve approaches, tools and results developed in other work packages to concrete locations in the city of Zurich. Furthermore, we integrate the "city project": With the city of Zurich planning the real transformation of a district towards carbon neutrality, we will have a unique possibility of not only testing and monitoring our findings, but also exploring real situations in the complexity of a built city. Therefore, we will define topics like the speed of transformation, subsidy schemes for the implementation for thermal grids and the role of the industrial/commercial sector. This empirical work will offer insights into the barriers and success factors of strategies to support the transition. It will also allow to understand the opportunities of applying the strategies to other cities. From a methodological point of view, this WP will lead to deeper understanding whether our methods and strategies are sufficient and appropriate, where and how they successfully complement existing approaches and where on the other hand new or other approaches are required.
Tasks:
- T6.1 Identification of current challenges and research contributions with respect to the challenges of the city and the planned transformation of a district
- T6.2 Results, learnings for scaling
- T6.3 Thermal grid technologies for the City of Zurich
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): from 3 to 6
Expected Outcomes / Milestones:
- Definition of topics and of 3 concrete cases
- Report on framework conditions underlying cases
- Test Report of Methods
- Guideline for successful transition
- Conclusion on optimized future thermal grids in Zurich
Duration: June 2021 - June 2027 (72 months)
