Research on industrial decarbonization has shown that strategic considerations are a key driver of investment in energy efficiency measures and low-carbon energy technologies.
Indeed, companies with a strategic orientation toward sustainability are more likely to explore options for greenhouse gas reduction or to tolerate lower-risk returns. For such firms, rather than competing with other sustainability measures, decarbonization measures are seen as an important step toward realizing company goals.
Therefore, these firms can be seen as a lead market for technologies such as industrial heat pumps or solar thermal.
However, implementing sustainability in a company is not always straightforward. It may be challenging to define which aspects of sustainability are most relevant for a company. Also, defining and prioritizing concrete measures requires expertise that is not always available in-house. Finally, embedding sustainability measures into the company strategy is often an underestimated step to achieving strong performance.
In a related research project, the Institute of Sustainable Development of ZHAW aims to discover which concrete obstacles companies face and how they can best be assisted in their sustainability efforts.
If you are from an industrial company, we are interested in your experience and perspectives.
We would be grateful if you took 10 minutes to fill out our survey (in German)

The results will be published, and Matthias Speich (matthias.speich@zhaw.ch) is happy to answer any questions you may have.
