In May and June 2024, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts offered a hybrid continuing education course "Energy Optimization with Pinch Analysis." The course, which focused on the pinch analysis method, covered several key topics over multiple days, including:
- Analysis of continuous processes, batch processes, and entire sites
- Optimization of utility supply systems
- Integration of renewable energies, thermal energy storage, and more
- Practical examples using the PinCH software
We were also excited to introduce our new Pinch Analysis laboratory as part of the course program. This laboratory provided an in-depth look at the design, equipment, and associated costs essential for heat exchanger network design based on Pinch Analysis. Students had the opportunity to see firsthand how the results from the PinCH software translate into practical heat exchanger network implementations. Additionally, the results are available on an online platform, allowing students to observe real-time effects of design changes and various control strategies, enhancing the overall learning experience.
