Decarbonisation of heat supply of Vienna’s district heating system presentation given by Rubesh Rezania (Wien Energie)
Half of the non-renewable share of total final energy consumption in Austria corresponds to the heating and cooling sector. District heating networks play a central role in the future decarbonisation of the heating sector by enabling the integration of locally available alternative energy sources (e.g. waste heat from industry and commerce, waste water, geothermal and solar thermal energy) with a simultaneous efficient operation of the infrastructure. Therefore, Since many years `Getting out of Gas` is a declared goal for Vienna´s energy supply strategy. This talk will show Wien Energie´s journey utilizing the waste heat and deep geothermal energy for district heating system getting a renewable share of 40% up to 2030.
